Disguise and Deceit: Opera Scenes

Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 18-19 - Ten Georgia College music students will perform seven opera scenes at 7:30 p.m. in Max Noah Recital Hall. Each scene contains elements of disguise or deceit with a varied mood of excitement, hopefulness and desolation. The concert—from the Classical, Romantic and 20th-century periods—moves from comedy to sarcasm and festiveness. Operas include Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” and “The Marriage of Figaro,” Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Fidelio,” George Bizet’s “Carmen,” Gian Carlo Menotti’s “The Old Maid and the Thief” and Johann Straus Jr.’s “Die Fledermaus.” Faculty members Youngmi Kim and Bradley Sowell are directing with Dr. Dana Gorzelany-Mostak joining in on “Die Fledermaus.” A $5 donation is encouraged. All proceeds benefit music scholarships or the GC Department of Music through GCSU Foundation, Inc. For more information, please email music@gcsu.edu or call 478-445-8289.
