Hurricane Michael Update

UPDATE: Thursday, Oct. 11 at 1:30 p.m.

Georgia College will reopen tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 12. Faculty and staff should report to work for their normal schedules. We urge all supervisors to be mindful of the individual circumstances that employees may have upon their return to campus. 

As a reminder, classes and student activities are cancelled until Monday, Oct. 15.

National Weather Service has canceled the Tropical Storm Warning for Baldwin County.

UPDATE: Thursday, Oct. 11 at 6:15 a.m.

The mandatory curfew for the City of Milledgeville and Baldwin County will be lifted at 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11.

UPDATE: Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m.

With dangerous storm conditions approaching the area, local public safety officials with the City of Milledgeville and Baldwin County are issuing a county wide mandatory curfew. The curfew will go in effect tonight at 11 p.m. Only emergency personnel will be allowed on the roadways. Officials will determine Thursday when the curfew will be lifted. Police Chief Dray Swicord and Sheriff Bill Massee feel the mandatory curfew is necessary due to the weather conditions created in the area by the fast approaching storm. In addition to the curfew, city government offices will be closed Thursday.

UPDATE: Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 10:20 a.m.

As previously stated, Georgia College classes and all student activities have been cancelled with current plans to resume on Monday, October 15, 2018.  Georgia College campuses are closed October 10-11, 2018 for non-essential employees and students. Only the previously published services will be available. 

Public Safety remains open 24/7 and should be contacted in an emergency on campus. Public Safety can be reached at 478-445-4400 or call 911.

Due to anticipated weather conditions from Hurricane Michael, Georgia College will remain closed Thursday, Oct. 11. Essential employees should stay posted for when they should report on Thursday. Contact your supervisor if clarification is needed.

For our students in residence halls, weekend dining hours (brunch 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner 5 to 7 p.m.) are in affect. Campus transportation will not run, unless otherwise noted. 

Again, we encourage students, faculty and staff to tune into local TV and radio stations for updates in your area. We want to stress the importance of personal preparedness. Remember, whether you live on or off campus, now is the time to prepare and ensure your safety for the coming days. Hurricane Michael has the potential to impact our area. Although the level of impact is still uncertain, there is a possibility for dangerous conditions. Georgia College is extending Fall Break until Monday morning for the main campus and all satellite operations. Consequently, all classes and student activities will be suspended until Monday, Oct. 15, 2018.

We encourage students, faculty and staff to tune into local TV and radio stations for updates in your area. We want to stress the importance of personal preparedness. Whether you live on or off campus, now is the time to prepare and ensure your safety for the coming days. Although classes and student activities are canceled, the university campus will remain open for faculty and staff. However, as weather conditions evolve, additional information will be posted on Front Page, so please be sure to check back often for updates. All emergency notifications and campus closures/delays will be sent via GC Alert if it becomes necessary.
