Thursday, Oct. 18 - French music composed between the French Revolution and World War II is the subject of Georgia College’s Wind Symphony concert, “Soirée Française,” at 7:30 p.m. in Russell Auditorium. That 150-year span witnessed incredible innovations in music, including development of most modern wind and brass instruments, as well as the proliferation of new composing styles like nationalism, impressionism and jazz. Senior music major Knox Boss will perform Joseph Barat’s “Introduction and Dance.” Dr. Hayes Bunch, director of bands at the University of South Carolina-Aiken, will guest conduct Gabriel Fauré’s “Pavane” and Claude Debussy’s “the Engulfed Cathedral.” A $5 donation is encouraged. All proceeds benefit music scholarships or the GC Department of Music through GCSU Foundation, Inc. For more information, please email email@example.com or call 478-445-8289.
