Sterling Talent Solutions: New Background Check Vendor

Georgia College has joined many other USG institutions and is now using Sterling Talent Solutions as the background check vendor for all pre-employment background investigations. All offer letters should include an enclosure for Electronic Background Instructions. The attachment should be used as the enclosure for all offer letters from this point forward--it reflects the process when using Sterling.

The implementation of Sterling does not change the existing onboarding process for hiring managers.

Employment Services will initiate the background check via Sterling on behalf of the candidate using the first and last names and email address provided on the acceptance letter. This means that HR/Employment Services cannot initiate the background check until being notified of the candidate’s acceptance of the position. Once the background check is launched, the candidate will receive an email with a username, password, and a link to complete the background check; all instructions are straight-forward and it should only take a couple of minutes for the candidate to complete the background process in its entirety. Employment Services will contact the hiring manager once results are in and inform them whether or not the candidate has been cleared for work per USG policy.

As a reminder, the steps for onboarding new hires and the forms associated with the onboarding process can be found on the Human Resources Intranet (https://intranet.gcsu.edu/human-resources) by Selecting Employment Services then Onboarding Employees from the menu on the left side of the screen. Forms can also be found of the Faculty and Staff intranet (https://intranet.gcsu.edu/faculty-and-staff-forms) under Human Resources. For access to both intranets, you must be logged into Unify.

*In the event that you had the electronic background check instructions saved on your desktop, please delete the old instructions and save the new, updated version (attached) that corresponds with Sterling.
