The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is in the early stages of changes to the traffic flow at the intersection of West Campus Drive and 441. The goal is to make that intersection safer for drivers.
Below is the information provided by GDOT.
On Monday, Sept. 16, GDOT will receive initial bids to build a reduced conflict U-turn (RCUT) operation at the US 441 intersection at Georgia College West Campus Drive/Magnolia Park.
An RCUT includes a specially designed median and two newly-built U-turn around points to the north and south.
When it's built, a driver must turn right out of Magnolia Park and West Campus. Then they can utilize a turn around a short distance away to get to the other side of the roadway. Mainline US 441 traffic can still turn left into the side roads.
This is a proven traffic ops design that eliminates crash occurrence and severity.
This Quick Response funding process typically means that within 30 days the project will be awarded. Once that happens later this year, the contractor has 90 days to complete.
