Class of 2022: Student opts to major in chemistry, physics or engineering

Name: Lance Underwood

Where are you from? Blairsville, Georgia

What attracted you to Georgia College? I was attracted to Georgia College, because I was going to be given the opportunity to run NCAA Cross country. After visiting, I liked the small-town feel.

How did it make you feel to have been denied admission to the Air Force academy and the Naval Academy due to having a reaction to bee stings? I was very disappointed at first because there was nothing I could do about it, but then I remembered that God has a plan for everything, and the door to Georgia College was opened.

What do you most look forward to at Georgia College? I most look forward to getting to know my teammates, classmates and professors. I also look forward to the experiences that I will make playing sports.

What would you like to major in? I plan to major in chemistry or physics, but right now I am favoring chemistry. I will just have to see how it goes.

Why did you choose this major? I really enjoy science and math, and I like the challenge these majors provide.

Will this major parallel what you intended to do with the Air Force or Navy? I was planning to major in some form of engineering at the service academies, with concentrations in chemistry or physics. Although Georgia College does not have the engineering major, it has both chemistry and physics majors, which interest me.

What do you plan to do once you graduate? If I decide to pursue an engineering degree, I will most likely transfer after three years to finish getting an engineering degree. However, if I stay and get my degree from Georgia College, I plan to find a non-office job where I can use my hands.
