December 2017: Music major makes the most of the college experience

Ryan Johnson

Major: Music Education with an emphasis on Instrumental Music

Hometown: Snellville, Georgia

What activities have you been involved with during college? I was heavily involved in music activities during my time here at Georgia College. I played Clarinet in the GC Wind Ensemble and Saxophone in the GC Jazz Band and Saxophone Quartet. I was also the President of Georgia College's Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha for two years.

What are your plans after graduation? My current plans are to move down to Warner Robins, Georgia, and work part time at various schools in the area until more Band Director jobs open up in the spring semester.

Who’s your favorite professor and why? My favorite professor has to be Dr. Clifford Towner. I worked with him closely during my four years at this college and had an internship under him for a semester. He demonstrated the true characteristics of a professional in music and gave me exceptional opportunities during my time at GC.

What has been your best memory during your time at Georgia College? The best memories were with the Georgia College Jazz Band and the various trips we made around the state and abroad. The study abroad trip with the band to the Czech Republic really made some long lasting impressions, seeing the sights of Prague, and most importantly, enjoying some really good beer.
