December 2017: Sociology major plans for a career in student affairs

Anika Patel

Major: Sociology with a double minor in Urban Studies and Business Administration

Hometown: Atlanta

What activities have you been involved with during college?
I have been strongly involved in University Housing and worked as a Community Advisor for 2 years. I served on the Dean's Student Advisory Board for 3 semesters, and I am an active member of NRHH (National Residence Hall Honorary).

What are your plans after graduation?
I am backpacking Europe for 3 months, working for a year, and then going to pursue my masters in Student Affairs & Higher Education in fall 2019.

What was your favorite class and why?
My favorite class that I have taken would have to be Racial Stratification with Dr. Stephanie McClure. This was my favorite because Dr. McClure is such an amazing professor and is extremely passionate about Sociology, specifically race. She is able to transfer that passion to her students through her teaching. I also felt like I got the most out of this class and it is extremely relevant and applicable to current events.

Quote:  "Since being at Georgia College, I have grown in a number of ways. I have become more confident in what I am capable of accomplishing academically and professionally. I feel as though I am a better person after having taken classes by such wonderful and passionate professors as well as having met such amazing students and staff members who are all a part of the GC community."
