May 2018: Economics major wins national research award

Hannah Pasko

What’s your major/minor? My major is Economics and I have a Minor in Marketing.

Where are you from? Jefferson, GA

What activities have you been involved with during college? I am a member of Alpha Delta Pi, vice president of GCSU Love Your Melon (LYM) Crew and Alpha Lamda Delta Honor society. I also work as a supervisor at the Wellness and Recreation Center, was a Economics Learning Center Tutor for 2 years and am a member of the Economics Club.

What are your plans after graduation? I plan to move to Denver as a marketing assistant.

Who was your favorite professor and why? Professor is Chris Clark— he is blunt and amazingly smart. He cares about his students and offers so much time and energy to make sure we see our potential. Also, he's just a funny guy.

What was your experience at the AEF Conference in Houston this year? What award did you receive? Houston was an amazing experience. We were all able to present our research and collaborate with economists and grad students who understand why we are in the major we are. I won Best undergraduate research paper for Academy of Economics and Finance (AEF) 2018.

In February 2018, eight students presented their research at the AEF Conference in Houston, Texas. Pasko won the Outstanding Undergraduate Student Paper Competition in Economics. She competed against undergraduate students from across the country bringing home the top prize. Pasko’s research was titled "Does Social Media Usage Affect Suicide Rates in the United States?"
