May 2018: Educator wants to impact the next generation through teaching, coaching

Kyle Smith

What’s your major? Special Education

Where are you from? Suwanee, Ga

What activities have you been involved with during college? I worked for the Wellness and Recreation Center all four years and played intramurals. I’m a brother of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and served as Vice President and Philanthropy Chair. I was also a Morale Leader for Georgia College Miracle.

What are your plans after graduation? After graduation, I will be teaching and coaching Baseball at Lambert High School.

What was your favorite class/professor and why? My favorite class during college was freshman year and my GC1Y class called Disability and Ability. It was taught by one of my favorite professors Dr. Nicole DeClouette. I learned so much about disabilities and how society tends to construct people with disabilities instead of their ability. I got some really neat experience including visiting and building relationships at the Life Enrichment Center.

Why did you choose to become an educator? I chose to become an educator because I want to impact the next generation, just as so many of my teachers and coaches impacted me.

"There’s so much that Georgia College has to offer. I’m glad I was able to call this place home for four years."
