Thursday, Feb. 20: The “Levante Guitar Duo” will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Max Noah Recital Hall, preceded by a preconcert performance from 6:45 to 7:15 p.m. showcasing Atlanta’s St. Pius X High School Advanced Guitar Ensemble. Vojislav and Aleksandra Ivanovic started their musical journey in 2008, performing Vojislav’s original works and jazz impressions in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro, Croatia, the United States, Greece, France, Germany, Slovenia and Spain. Born in Sarajevo, Vojislav started playing guitar at the age of 10. He earned degrees in guitar at the Athens Conservatory and composition at the University of Sarajevo. In the tonal world of classical guitar, his music brings together diverse influences in musical styles, both east and west. Vojislav and Aleksandra have released a critically-acclaimed album, “Levantine Journey.” Concert songs include “Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring” and “B.A.C.H. Fugue,” as well as jazz impressions like “Round After Midnight” and Café Latino pieces like “Samba tou Taki.” Directed by Brion Kennedy, the St. Pius X Advanced Guitar Ensemble performs at many concerts and festivals, including community-outreach shows at nursing homes, shelters, hospitals and schools.
