Thursday and Friday, March 7-8 great melodies are the hallmark of this year’s Georgia College Jazz Band Concert: “Melodious Jazz” at 7:30 p.m. in Russell Auditorium. Every chart on the program will have audiences humming, singing and tapping along. The mood is upbeat with a variety of jazz styles from the 1930s to today, including swing, basso nova, rock, hard bop and ballads. In addition to Band Director Clifford Towner and 19 students of all majors who make up the jazz band—there will be two student vocalists: Turner Howell and Madison Rutledge. Come hear nostalgic favorites like “The Best is Yet to Come” by Cy Coleman, “Dat Dere” by Bobby Timmons, “Emancipation Blues” by Oliver Nelson and “I Can’t Stop Loving You” by Don Gibson. A $5 donation is encouraged. All proceeds benefit music scholarships or the GC Department of Music through GCSU Foundation, Inc.
