Thursday, Oct. 31 Georgia College’s Wind Symphony concert, “S-p-a-c-e,” will be at 7:30 p.m. in Russell Auditorium with guest composer Steven Bryant and senior music major Cole Markland on saxophone. Produced by the university’s Director of Bands, Dr. Clifford Towner, this concert explores the nature of musical space from the composer’s creation to different interpretations by performers and listeners. The program opens with a positive, uplifting mood but pivots halfway through and darkens like All Hallows’ Eve. Audiences will be familiar with pieces like Bryant’s “Ecstatic Fanfare,” “Dusk” and “Radiant Joy.” One of two 2019 Concerto Competition winners, Cole will perform Warren Benson’s “Aeolian Song.” There will be a golf cart shuttle available from the Peabody Parking Lot on the corner of W. Montgomery and N. Liberty Streets. A $5 donation is encouraged. All proceeds benefit music scholarships or the GC Department of Music through GCSU Foundation, Inc.
