Times Talk Wednesday January 25, noon-12:50, "What is School For? Meaningful Employment? Personal Enrichment? The Public Good? What is college for, anyway?"

Join us in 241 Russell Library for an informative and engaging discussion facilitated by Dr. Nathan Bedsole, Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Director of the GC Speech and Debate Team on "What is School For? Meaningful Employment? Personal Enrichment? The Public Good? What is college for, anyway?"  The following article will be referenced during the discussion so feel free to read it ahead of time or during the discussion: Anya Kamenetz's essay "School is For Everyone" https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/01/opinion/us-school-history.html makes the case that, above all, public education in America is a condition for communication, empathy, and democracy.

Times Talk at Georgia College is celebrating 18 continuous years as the first in the nation college weekly discussion series on current and significant public events and issues as reported by the New York Times and other reputable news sources. The topics change weekly and are chosen and facilitated by volunteer faculty, staff, students, and community members. Times Talk is open to all campus and local community members. Just bring your brain, FREE PIZZA provided! Brought to you by the American Democracy Project at Georgia College and the Ina Dillard Russell Library.

Next week’s February 1 Times Talk: Dr. Angela Criscoe, Executive Director, School of Continuing and Professional Studies on "Need a Life Hack to navigate your world? Continuing education can support you as a college student and through a lifetime of careers and personal goals.”

"Continuing education is the fastest-growing component of higher education."
