Lecture & Discussion: Liquid Agency in the Collapse of a Tanzanian NGO by Provost's Visiting Scholar Dr. Jenna Hanchey, Arizona State University

In this engaging lecture and discussion, Provost's Visiting Scholar, Dr. Jenna Hanchey draws from her fieldwork conducted at an internationally managed aid organization in Tanzania. Dr. Hanchey explores the ways that Tanzanian employees often run into problems with Western donors and volunteers, and how they use what she terms "liquid agency" to take control of decision-making and action in the organization. 

Dr. Hanchey, of the Hugh Downs School of Communication at Arizona State University, is one of the most prominent young scholars in the Communication discipline, her work draws from many area including intercultural and organizational communication, gender studies, African studies, international development, and critical/cultural studies.
