Roger Folsom appointed to Georgia Board of Community Health by Governor

Georgia College Leadership Advisory Board member Roger Folsom has been re-appointed to the Georgia Board of Community Health. Governor Brian Kemp issued the executive order on November 4th, and the Office of the Governor announced the new appointment on November 13th, following the board’s most recent meeting.

Folsom will continue his service as vice-chairman of the board. His term expires in November 2023.

“I congratulate Mr. Folsom on his appointment, and I look forward to our continued work together on the Leadership Advisory Board and in service to our Georgia College students,” said Dr. Harold Mock, director of leadership programs. “Governor Kemp recognizes Roger’s many distinguished qualities and clearly knows how much the people of our state rely on his expertise and leadership.”

The Board of Community Health governs Georgia’s Department of Community Health, providing access to affordable and quality healthcare across the state. The Department of Community Health is responsible for improving the health outcomes of all Georgians, including healthcare planning, purchasing, and regulation. The Department serves as the lead agency for Medicaid and also oversees the State Health Benefit Plan and Healthcare Facility Regulation Division, impacting one in four of Georgia’s citizens.

In addition to his service as vice-chairman of the Board of Community Health, Folsom also serves as chairman of the Dublin-Laurens Development Authority. He also is chairman of Fairview Park Hospital Board of Trustees, sits on the Board of Directors of Farmers State Bank, and was elected to the Board of Governors of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. He is president and owner of Med1st, a home medical services and equipment company, and was formerly regional director of the Lutheran Healthcare System, based in Chicago.

Folsom has served as a mentor in the Georgia Education Mentorship Program (GEM) since 2012. He has served on the Leadership Advisory Board since this year. As a board member, he advises and supports Georgia College in developing deep and mutually beneficial relationships with external organizations, foundations, and government partners.

Folsom holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Valdosta State University and master’s degree from the University of Georgia.
