Where are they now? STEM Alumni Career Panel Discussions

The Science Education Center has partnered with GC's Chemistry Club to bring several GC STEM alumni back (virtually) to hold two career panel discussions.  Additional speakers may be joining but the ones listed below have confirmed.

Panel A - Tuesday, March 30th at 6:00 pm

  • Marissa (Johnsey) Stewart - works for NASA in Materials Engineering
  • Jeffrey Ivie, Ph.D. - Ph.D. from the University of Arizona. Government R&D (postdoctoral appointee at Sandia National Laboratories)
  • Joseph Tamasi - SCIEX, District Service Manager and GBI Forensic Scientist
  • Martin Alcantar - second-year graduate student in the Biochemistry Ph.D. program at the University of Missouri
  • Amy Turns - M.S. in Occupational Industrial Hygiene.  Worked as a lab and process Chemist for 11 years but recently transitioned into an Environmental and Safety Engineer position for Zoetis Pharmaceutical Company in Nebraska 
  • Ashley (Baena) Lampp - Former high school science teacher and currently works for LanzaTech Freedom Pines Biorefinery


Panel B - Wednesday, April 28th at 6:00 pm

  • Jay Owens, M.D. - 2014 Ross University School of Medicine, 2018 Loyola University Medical Center-(Psychiatry Resident), 2019 Cleveland Clinic Foundation (Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Fellow)
  • Rachel Stephens, PharmD - Solid Organ Transplant Pharmacist at Augusta University Medical Center
  • Thomas Pangia, Ph.D. - M.S. and Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University.  Currently, Senior Life Science Specialist-L.E.K. Consulting
  • Ben Barfield, A.A. - Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant at Children's Hospital Colorado 
  • Steven Rowland, Ph.D. - Received Ph.D. in Chemistry from Florida State University, specializing in Biofuels and Renewable Energy
  • Jessica Cumbee - Research Information Scientist and Technical Editor for U.S. Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory
  • Preston Skersick - Pharm.D. from Mercer University
