Hispanic Heritage: Collaborations, Conversations, and Celebrations of Women in STEM

Join GC's STEM Club at our first Milly's Science Cafe of the year with our collaboration with GC's Science Education Center and Central Georgia Technical College's Library and Academic Support Services at the opening of their exhibit for Hispanic Heritage Month celebrating Women in STEM! Our featured speaker is Dr. Angela M. González from the Department of Science and Technology at Inter American University of Puerto Rico - San Germán Campus. Dr. González is an analytical chemist whose research focuses on environmental analysis and treatment.  She mentors undergraduate and graduate students in research and is the co-director of a NIFA-USDA project, Encouraging Careers in Food Security and Safety (ECaFSS), which is a multi-institutional and interdisciplinary collaborative that aims to better prepare Hispanic students in science, specifically to "increase the critical mass of Hispanic agricultural scientists pursuing careers in NIFA-HIS priority areas of food security, food safety, and related disciplines." She has also been President of the American Chemical Society Puerto Rico Section as well as head of her department. Dr. González is joining us to share her story and experiences as a Hispanic woman in STEM! We are hosting the event at the Grand Opening of the GC Science Education Center and CGTC ASC's exhibit featuring 12 Hispanic Women in STEM, which will be housed at CGTC  in the main lobby area of A-Building outside of their Academic Success Center first then will travel to Herty Hall at GCSU near the Science Education Center next! Please spread the word and come to learn more about these amazing Hispanic Women in STEM! Masks are strongly encouraged for the health and safety of everyone in attendance! A virtual option through WebEx is available! The link will be located in our Facebook event. Please use the QR code attached to RSVP for the event and get the WebEx link from the Facebook event page!
