OIE Presents Diversity 360 Series Event: Disarming Microaggressions

OIE Presents Diversity 360 Series Event: Disarming Microaggressions

The Office of Inclusive Excellence will present “Disarming Microaggressions” on October 20 at 12:00 p.m. This virtual workshop will be facilitated by Shadisha Bennett-Brodde, Mental Health Counselor at Flagler College and Owner of Many Rivers Counseling Services.

Notoriously difficult to address, microaggressions don’t necessarily reflect bad intent but can still be very damaging by reinforcing stereotypes and undermining their targets’ confidence and identity. Furthermore, bystanders who witness microaggressions may feel caught off guard and lack the skills to respond to the microaggression in real time.

Shadisha Bennett-Brodde will provide participants practical information on how to address, disrupt and prevent microaggressions in order to create a safe and inclusive campus environment at Georgia College.
