Wind Symphony Concert: A Jazzy Affair

Thursday, Oct. 28 Georgia College’s Wind Symphony presents “A Jazzy Affair” at 7:30 p.m. in Russell Auditorium. Directed by Dr. Cliff Towner, this concert aims to lift the heavy and tiring weight of the pandemic with fun, light and uplifting music. Influenced by American jazz, there will be harmonic style and some improvisation––similar to a Pops Orchestra concert on a breezy summer evening in Atlanta. Songs dating back to 1927 will be featured, like “Latte Macchiato” by Naoya Wada; “Fly Me to the Moon” by Bart Howard and “Sweet Trombone Rag” by Al Sweet. Senior music therapy major Reed Tanner will be on alto saxophone. Reed is the 2019 Concerto Competition winner. He’ll perform Pedro Iturralde’s “Pequeña Czarada” which means “Little Dance.” A $5 donation is encouraged. All proceeds benefit music scholarships or the GC Department of Music through GCSU Foundation, Inc. For more information, please email music@gcsu.edu or call 478-445-8289.
