GC Writing Center Graduate & Professional Staff to Present at SWCA

GC Writing Center Tutors will present at the Southeastern Writing Centers Association (SWCA) conference, which is attended by tutors, staff, faculty, and administrators from across the region. Sponsored by the largest, most active affiliate of the International Writing Centers Association, this yearly conference provides a forum for a wide variety of topics relevant to Writing Center work, ranging from increasing opportunities for undergraduate publication in writing center studies to digital resources in center spaces.

Graduate Writing Consultants will represent Georgia College on two separate virtual panels at the three-day SWCA conference from Thursday, February 10th - Saturday, February 12th. MFA student Sherri-Anne Forde (GCWC Writing in the Disciplines Coordinator) will draw from Glenn Singleton’s work on _Courageous Conversations about Race_ to facilitate a workshop conversation, entitled, "Courageous Conversations in the Writing Center." MFA students Kieran Binney, Aron Liebig, Rachel Kerger (GCWC Administrative Coordinator), and Shannon Yarbrough (GCWC Resources Coordinator) will discuss their approaches to assisting composition students and highlight resources in development for a session on "Mapping The Thesis Statement: Accessible Resource Creation for First-Year Composition Students."

As a representative of the SWCA Board, Writing Center Director Dr. Joy Bracewell will conduct a session on its certification program, SWCA-CARE (Center Acknowledgement & Recognition of Excellence), and will also join Dr. Candis Bond, SWCA-CARE Co-Chair and Associate Prof. of English and Writing Center Director at Augusta University, to facilitate a roundtable on the placemaking strategies of writing center professionals as a domain of professional labor.
