9/11 Commemoration on Campus
Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
This Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001. Many of our faculty, staff, and students remember distinctly where they were on that day and the feelings of fear and helplessness our nation collectively experienced. Even our students who were too young at the time to be aware of the events have seen how they have shaped our nation.
On Friday, September 10, Georgia College will observe the 20th anniversary of 9/11. On Front Campus you will see an array of flags representing the 2,977 fallen victims and a listing of their names. In the center of Front Campus you will also see 13 flags standing alone to represent the American servicemembers killed earlier this month in Afghanistan.
The carillon bells will ring four times in the morning, signaling the time of impact of each of the four hijacked planes on September 11, 2001. Please join me in taking a moment of quiet reflection during those times: 8:46 am, 9:03 am, 9:37 am, and 10:03 am.
Warm Regards,
Steve Dorman
President
