If you are outside in a public place and cannot maintain a minimum of 6 feet from people who do not live with you or you are inside any building that is not your residence or in a commercial vehicle with others who do not live with you, you must wear a mask unless the entity has posted a sign on its entrance that reads, “This location does not consent to enforcement of any local face covering requirement upon this property” or unless in a religious establishment (although the use of facial coverings is highly recommended during religious activity).
What are the exceptions to needing to wear a mask?
- In personal vehicles or upon residential property (inside or out) where you live.
- When you are alone in enclosed spaces or only with other household members.
- If you have bona fide religious objection to wearing a facial covering or mask.
- When outdoors, provided you can maintain a minimum of six (6) feet from other people with whom you do not live.
- If you are drinking, eating, or smoking.
- If wearing a mask causes or aggravates a health condition.
- If wearing a mask would interfere with receiving personal services or performing work in the course of employment.
- If you are complying with the directions of a law enforcement officer or for the purposes of verifying a person’s identity, such as when purchasing alcohol, tobacco, or prescription drugs or when engaging in a financial transaction.
- If you are inside any polling place or trying to enter or exit a polling place.
- When a person is ten (10) years of age or younger.
- If you have difficulty putting on or removing a mask without assistance from another person.

Today—Friday, August 28, 2020--is the deadline for offer letter submission to the Office of Human Resources for any staff or student bi-weekly new hire or rehire starting on September 20, 2020. All student and staff offer letters must be sent to HR for review and approval before extending them to the new hire or rehire. This helps ensure that we remain compliant with our many institutional, USG, state, and federal regulations.
The next bi-weekly start date for eligible new hires and rehires will be October 4, 2019.
There is a deadline within the matrix for document submission to HR. Please encourage your new hires and rehires to deliver their offer letter acceptance and ALL enclosures to HR via email to NewHirePaperwork@gcsu.edu by this deadline (September 2, 2020) to ensure that there will be no immediate delay in start date of 10/04/2020. We are happy to announce that at the August 11 meeting, the Board of Regents approved the 2021 University System of Georgia (USG) healthcare plans and premiums for active employees and pre-65 retirees. The Board also approved the USG funding for the supplemental coverage for Medicare-eligible retirees age 65 and older. The plans and premiums for 2021 are good news for our employees and retirees.
