Bobcat Soccer to Host Spring ID Camp May 2

The Georgia College Women's Soccer team will host an ID Camp Sunday, May 2 for any female high-school athletes who are interested in showcasing their skills and playing soccer at the next level.

The Bobcat ID Camp is open to all prospective student-athletes, giving them an important opportunity to gain next-level recognition for their talents and skills. While being able to meet and train with coaches in person, the opportunity also allows these athletes to make connections with coaches and players at Georgia College.

The camp will cost $125 for a 9 a.m.-4 p.m. session, which will consist of individual skill challenges, as well as live-game simulations. Also included in this cost are a campus tour and lunch.

The Music Theatre Scenes Class Presents a Musical Film: Close the Distance

Music Theatre Scenes

Wednesday, April 28 This year, the Georgia College Music Theatre Scenes Class will film its annual concert, “Close the Distance,” at 7:30 p.m. With Dr. Dana Gorzelany-Mostak directing and Liv Ryabinin accompanying on piano, 10 students will perform in Russell Auditorium and at various locations around campus. The film will feature uplifting and sentimental tunes from favorite shows like “Next to Normal,” “Jekyll and Hyde,” “Wicked,” “Chess” and “Bonnie and Clyde.” Please follow us on facebook.com/GCMusicDepartment to view this live-streamed concert. Dr. Andrew Jewett, the current Martha Daniel Newell Visiting Scholar, will present new research on April 27 at 6 p.m. from his current project, The Discovery of Environmental Justice.

Dr. Jewett  has taught at several leading universities, including a decade at Harvard and three years at Boston College as well as shorter positions at Yale, NYU and Vanderbilt. He has also held fellowships from the National Humanities Center, the Cornell Society for the Humanities, the National Academy of Education, and the American Academy for the Arts & Sciences. We have all heard the term “color blind”—a term suggesting that we're all just human beings and skin color doesn't affect us. Right?  But, when we try to have a color-blind mindset, we not only fail to see the distinctive assets our students and colleagues bring to our university, we also fail to acknowledge the challenges that come with being a person of color.

REMINDER: Fall ’21 Graduation Applications Due Friday, April 23

The Academic Advising Center would like to remind any Undergraduate Student planning to graduate in Fall ’21 to submit their Graduation Application (GradApp) by the deadline, Friday, April 23.  Please visit the Registrar’s Graduation & Commencement site to view the Graduation Application and process the Graduation Fee to secure an Order Number.  Once the Order Number is secured and GradApp completed, schedule an appointment to meet with your Academic Advisor to review your Graduation Application.

REMINDER: New Time - 6th Annual Celebration of Faculty Scholarship and Grantsmanship

The 6th Annual Celebration of Faculty Scholarship and Grantsmanship has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 22, from 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. This virtual event will recognize peer-reviewed scholarship, creative works, and grantsmanship from the calendar year 2020.

Thursday, April 22 An evening of electronic music will be online at 7:30 p.m. as Georgia College’s Music Department presents “Sound Sculptures XVI: Remote Control.” Directed by faculty members Douglas Bassett and Dr. David H. Johnson, this concert features newly-composed electronic compositions by Georgia College students. “Remote Control” is the predominant theme for this year’s innovative musical program, paying tribute to the world’s remote performance events and distance activities during COVID-19. REMINDER: Russell Library: Summer and Fall material requests due date

As the spring semester comes to a close, the Russell Library would like to remind faculty to submit any material requests for the upcoming summer and fall 2021 semesters. 


Faculty who need to request materials (e.g., streaming media, books, e-books) for Summer 2021 and Fall 2021 courses are encouraged to submit their requests by April 30, 2021. This will allow the library to source the items and make them available by the beginning of the semester they are needed.
