If you are outside in a public place and cannot maintain a minimum of 6 feet from people who do not live with you or you are inside any building that is not your residence or in a commercial vehicle with others who do not live with you, you must wear a mask unless the entity has posted a sign on its entrance that reads, “This location does not consent to enforcement of any local face covering requirement upon this property” or unless in a religious establishment (although the use of facial coverings is highly recommended during religious activity).
What are the exceptions to needing to wear a mask?
- In personal vehicles or upon residential property (inside or out) where you live.
- When you are alone in enclosed spaces or only with other household members.
- If you have bona fide religious objection to wearing a facial covering or mask.
- When outdoors, provided you can maintain a minimum of six (6) feet from other people with whom you do not live.
- If you are drinking, eating, or smoking.
- If wearing a mask causes or aggravates a health condition.
- If wearing a mask would interfere with receiving personal services or performing work in the course of employment.
- If you are complying with the directions of a law enforcement officer or for the purposes of verifying a person’s identity, such as when purchasing alcohol, tobacco, or prescription drugs or when engaging in a financial transaction.
- If you are inside any polling place or trying to enter or exit a polling place.
- When a person is ten (10) years of age or younger.
- If you have difficulty putting on or removing a mask without assistance from another person.
