Thursday and Friday, Nov. 5-6 The Georgia College Jazz Band will livestream its fall concert, “Take the Virtual Train,” at 7:30 p.m. both nights. The band will perform classic sounds from charts by Antônio Carlos Jobim, Billy Strayhorn, Oliver Nelson, Miles Davis and Peter Pearson. The concert title is taken from Strayhorn’s “Take the A Train,” which will be performed along with other compositions from the 20th century, like Jobim’s “Desafinado,” Nelson’s “Hoe-Down,” Davis’ “Seven Steps to Heaven” and Pearson’s “Sweet Honey Bee.” Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the Jazz Band has not met in person. The annual survey has been conducted since 1996 and is important both in raising awareness about GALILEO and in helping us keep up with users’ likes and dislikes, concerns and visions. It will run Nov. 6 – 20. In the past year, your feedback has been critical in deciding how GALILEO would be redesigned!

On Friday November 6, the sidewalk between Porter Hall and Bell Hall will be closed between 2 pm and 4:30 pm. We ask that during this time, people leaving Porter Hall avoid exiting on the south side of the building, except for the use of the elevator. During the holidays, a common thread among families of various cultures and heritages is food and the recipes that are passed down from generation to generation and amongst friends. Food has the power to unite and bring people from all walks of life to the table for a shared experience. The Cultural Center and the Office of Parent and Family Programs would like to capture the recipes and stories found within the rich and diverse heritages that make up the Georgia College community and compile a Holiday Heritage Cookbook.
