Theatre’s COVID production accepted and praised at Kennedy Center

Last semester, when most playhouses and university theatres were shut down, Georgia College’s Theatre Department was bustling with new ideas, churning out virtual performances and filming productions.

The very first, “Zoom[Out],” was accepted to the regional Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) and screened at its virtual festival in early February. The last time a Georgia College play was shown at KCACTF was in 2008. The department of theatre and dance is now waiting to see if the production will advance to KCACTF’s national festival.

Other plays, actors, technicians and stage managers from the spring 2020 semester were nominated for national KCACTF awards that will be decided in April.

Georgia College was praised for producing so much when “so many programs have chosen not to produce,” according to a coordinator of the KCACTF nine-state regional four division.

An Exhibition of Heart Full Songs:  Faculty and Guest Artist Recital

Tuesday, March 9 Take an online musical journey at 7:30 p.m. via Georgia College’s recital, “An Exhibition of Heart Full Songs,” with guest artist and pianist ChoEun Lee. Travel is still limited due to COVID, but this recital will bring listeners through various countries with art songs from the Classical, Romantic and early 20th-century periods. Faculty member and soprano Youngmi Kim will sing, treating the audience a festive, calm and hopeful assortment of tunes. Music by Venezuelan-born French composer Reynaldo Hahn, American composer Amy Beach and German composer Richard Strauss will be featured. REMINDER: GC Best Buddies: "Spread the Word: Inclusion" Tabling

GC Best Buddies will be at the fountain on March 3rd from 11am-3pm to share the Spread the Word campaign. The Spread the Word campaign is focused on making inclusive environments for adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities. Best Buddies will be selling t-shirts for $15 and crewnecks for $25.
