Self-Care and Social Justice Virtual WorkshopThe Office of Inclusive Excellence presents Self-Care and Social Justice Virtual Workshop on October 29 at 12:30 p.m. Connect with like-minded peers as we discuss how to navigate challenging campus, community, national, and global issues and how we can take care of our physical, mental, and emotional selves when our environment may be disaffirming. Participants will learn to identify the symptoms of social justice stress and how it impacts them. Likewise, participants will be able to identify ways of managing their distress to improve self-care.

READ MORE Virtual Insanity Wind Symphony ConcertThursday, Oct. 29 At 7:30 p.m., Georgia College will present its annual Wind Symphony concert online, inspired by the 1996 song “Virtual Insanity” by Jamiroquai, to musically portray the COVID-19 pandemic—showing humanity’s ability to survive and even flourish. The music is intended to share the darkness of the crisis, while moving toward hope, perserverance and light. One positive outcome of COVID-19 has been ways people have adapted by using new technology, procedures and habits. This program utilizes new techniques, as well. All rehearsals and pre-recordings were done by distance through the use of technology. This was a huge undertaking and steep learning curve for the ensemble, making the performers stronger musicians. Join GC Professors to discuss issues related to gender and sexuality in the upcoming election sponsored by the Women's and Gender studies program. Topics may include: legal issues pertaining to gender and the Supreme Court battle; protections for LGBT Americans; media representations of women of color candidates; and the current upsurge in women's political activism. Attendees are asked to keep their mics and cameras off unless otherwise instructed.

As we navigate the pandemic, music is becoming an outlet and a comfort. Entertainment on our screens keeps us busy and sane. With this concert, we pay tribute to composers, performers and production houses, who’ve been silenced from normal routines—but whose performances reach worldwide audiences by Internet. University choral ensembles will record live with pieces by composers like Bizet, Verdi, Wagner, as well as choruses from “Phantom of the Opera,” “The Baker’s Wife” and “Wicked.” A song from the popular television show, “Outlander” will also be featured.
