Title: Ecology of extreme environments and water science of the future
presented by Dr. REBECCA J. BIXBY,
Director of the University of New Mexico Water Resources Program; Department of Biology & Museum of Southwestern Biology, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Learn more about the Water Resources Program on the University of New Mexico website.
Wednesday Feb 15th, 2023, 5 PM, Arts & Sciences, room 167
Dr. Bixby leads a research program at the intersection of biodiversity, ecology, and water management, focused on aquatic ecosystems in the arid southwestern United States. Her research examines responses and adaptation of aquatic organisms to natural and anthropogenic stressors like fire, drought, and flooding. Those are of great interest to several faculty in the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences and in the GC Aquatic Center.
For students interested in Water Resources Graduate work, Water regulations and interdisciplinary use of science for improvement of the environment can meet with Dr Bixby on Feb. 14th and/or 16th 2023. Additional support for student meeting provided by Dr. Manoylov through Georgia Power Endowed Professorship in Environmental Sciences and the GC Aquatic Center (contact Dr. Manoylov at kalina.manoylov@gcsu.edu for more info).
