Administrative Relocation of the Office of Sustainability to Academic Affairs

Administrative Relocation of the Office of Sustainability to Academic Affairs

The Office of the Provost is pleased to announce that the Office of Sustainability relocated administratively to the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences from Facilities Management beginning February 1. The move is intended to bring the activities of the Office of Sustainability into closer engagement and alignment with faculty activities in Academic Affairs and, ultimately, to provide the office with greater outreach and access to a larger number of current and prospective students.

While the reporting structure for the Office of Sustainability will change, the purpose and mission of the center will not, as it will remain open to students and faculty from across campus who wish to intern at the office or collaborate on faculty/student projects and activities. The existing activities already pursued by the office such as recycling, food composting, and glass crushing will continue.

The provost’s office expects that this relocation will encourage even greater faculty and student engagement and expansion of sustainability opportunities beyond what is currently happening on campus. Further, the change will bring an opportunity to broaden student participation through undergraduate research, community-based engaged learning, and other high-impact practices via the GC Journeys institutional initiative. Finally, we anticipate that this move will allow faculty and students to pursue grant funding opportunities.

The Sustainability Council comprised of faculty, staff, and students will continue to remain involved and guide the future activities of the Office.

The location and personnel of the Office of Sustainability will remain the same. The office is currently located in Miller Court on North Wayne Street.
