"This Might Hurt" - Virtual Documentary Screening

The Georgia College & State University Chapter of Psi Chi, Psychology Club, and STEM Club presents:

"This Might Hurt" - A documentary screening and virtual panel discussion!

Chronic pain impacts an estimated 50.2 million adults in the United States every day or nearly every day (Yong, Mullins, & Bhattacharyya, 2022). Many of those individuals report that "traditional" interventions (e.g., opiates, physical therapy, etc.) have limited to no effect on managing their pain. Over the past several years, researchers and clinicians have been testing the effectiveness of other interventions for managing chronic pain, including the use of cannabis (McDonagh et al., 2022) and psychological interventions like Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT - Ashar, Gordon, & Schubiner, 2021) and Emotional Awareness & Expression Therapy (EAET - Lumely & Schubiner, 2019).

This Might Hurt, "offers solutions to reduce and unlearn chronic pain. The film follows three chronic pain patients who have spent years searching for answers. Desperate for relief, they enter a new medical program — run by Dr. Howard Schubiner — that focuses on uncovering hidden causes of pain and retraining their brains to switch the pain off." The documentary focuses on PRT as an intervention and discusses psychological aspects of pain. 

We have screening window for viewing the documentary that runs from February 21st through March 7th and on March 7th at 6 p.m., we will host a virtual panel discussion with one of the filmmakers and Daniel Lyman, LCSW MPA - Founder/director of the Mind Body Therapy & Coaching Center! During the panel where you can ask them questions as well as learn more about the film and the interventions.
