Sociology Students Lead Times Talk

On Wednesday, March 1st, GC Times Talk was facilitated by Sociology senior capstone students Laynie Derry, Molly Pickrell, and Emily Rezac on the topic, “How Did You Get to College? High School Counseling and Access to College.”

The discussion included sharing information about their own capstone research project on the college counseling experiences of local high school students as well as discussion of the program featured in their selected article, Helping Low Income Students Navigate College. Laynie, Emily, and Molly are working on this capstone under the supervision of sociology faculty member Stephanie McClure.

About the program:

Times Talk at Georgia College is celebrating 18 continuous years as the first in the nation college weekly discussion series on current and significant public events and issues as reported by the New York Times and other reputable news sources. The topics change weekly and are chosen and facilitated by volunteer faculty, staff, students, and community members. Times Talks are open to all campus and local community members.
