Students Taking Part in National Competition

Students in Dr. Steve Elliott-Gower’s Politics of Climate Change class are participating in the 2023 Up To Us Case Competition, a national competition by organized Up to Us in partnership with the American Association of State Colleges and Universities and the Bipartisan Policy Center.

The sixteen students, divided into four teams, are researching and writing policy memos that outline fiscally sustainable policy solutions to get the United States to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

The students will also produce a short video presentation describing their proposed solutions, which include combinations of green energy investment, electrification of transportation and building, afforestation, carbon taxes, cap-and-trade schemes, and carbon border adjustment mechanisms.
