Reminder: The 7th Annual Making Excellence Inclusive Day

The 7th annual Making Excellence Inclusive (MEI) Day will be held Tuesday, August 15 at 9:00 a.m. in the Arts and Sciences Auditorium. This day of professional development is to develop the skills, knowledge, and competencies needed as we progress toward making Georgia College & State University a more welcoming and belonging environment.

The morning session will include a collaborative panel of distinguished Milledgeville and Georgia College representatives to discuss the MEI program theme: You Can’t Spell Inclusion Without Us – Working Together to Prepare for a Diverse Future.

Following the panel discussion, there will be breakout sessions led by our GCSU faculty and staff, and Dr. Patrice Buckner Jackson, MEI Day keynote speaker and founder of EduCare Training and Consulting, LLC. Dr. Jackson’s session is titled, "Disrupting Burnout." The sessions will be held from 10:20 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will include:

  • Understanding Title IX
  • GC Hiring Updates
  • Eliminating Bias in Recommendation Letters
  • Managing Diversity Flashpoints
  • Ethics & Allyship
  • Building Community through Restorative Practices
  • LGBTQ+ Inclusion

The afternoon session will include lunch and the keynote presentation from 12:30 - 1:45 p.m. in the Peabody Auditorium. After lunch, we will conclude the day with community conversations focused on lessons learned and taking action steps to create and maintain a welcoming and belonging campus community.
