GCSU Music Therapy students, clinic and Baldwin County's Program for Exceptional Children present "All Originals!" concert

The Baldwin County School District’s Program for Exceptional Children, in collaboration with the Georgia College Music Therapy Clinic and Music Therapy Program, cordially invites the community to join them for, "All Originals!" This special concert, showcasing the incredible talents of students from BCSD's Program for Exceptional Children (PEC), will take place at 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at Oak Hill Middle School.

The "All Originals!" concert is the culmination of an ongoing collaboration between the students from the PEC, board-certified music therapists from the Music Therapy Clinic, students of the music therapy program at Georgia College. Every semester, these therapists, faculty members and students have been conducting music therapy sessions at various Baldwin County schools, including Baldwin High School, Midway Hills Primary, Oak Hill Middle School, Lakeview Primary and Lakeview Academy. These sessions focus on enhancing expressive communication and interpersonal skills. In addition to participating in sessions, the students rehearse a piece for their end-of-semester performance.

This semester's program has taken a unique turn, with each class actively contributing to the creation of original music. Students have collaborated to write lyrics, explored various instruments and technology, and collectively produced their own songs. The concert promises a diverse musical experience, featuring instruments such as drums, guitar, piano and synth, as well as technology like light-up drum sticks and the iPad app, Koala. A total of nine groups, comprising over 80 students, will take the stage to sing and dance. The performance is not only a celebration of the students' musical achievements, but also an opportunity for the community to witness the transformative power of music therapy.

This concert is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided after the concert.
