Learning Center tutor wins National Tutor of the Year Award

Learning Center Tutor Lead and Stats and Chem Tutor Sophia McNeill was awarded the Tutor of the Year (TOY) Award from the Georgia Tutoring Association at this past October's conference. The award is open to both peer and professionally tutors nationally and requires both a nomination packet and a video from applicants. Sophia has worked for the Learning Center in multiple capacities, as an SI Leader in the past and a tutor for several subject areas. In addition to receiving a certificate from the association, Sophia was awarded $250 and received recognition at the annual conference. Sophia, like all LC tutors, is certified through the College Reading and Learning Association as a Level 3 tutor and has presented not only at LC staff training, but also national conferences on learning assistance.

When asked what receiving the TOY Award meant to her, Sophia explained, "I am so honored to have received this recognition because it validates the work I do. I love my job as a tutor because I am able to extend myself as resource to my peers and work alongside them to reach academic success."

The Learning Center employs around 150+ students each academic year and provides academic support in the form of SI, peer tutoring, academic workshops and Excel Bootcamps. Follow the happenings of the LC on Instagram @gc_learningcenter.
