Remembering Rosalynn Carter, 1927-2023

Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter visited Georgia College & State University during Homecoming in 1978. Her mother, Allethea "Allie" Murray Smith, '26, a Georgia College & State University (Georgia State College for Women) graduate, received the "Mother of the Year" Award from GCSU's Alumni Association at a luncheon held April 22, 1978, in the Maxwell Student Union. Rosalynn and her daughter, Amy, accompanied Allie for this tribute. After the luncheon, they attended the reception at Georgia's Old Governor's Mansion, where a Butler Brown painting was presented in honor of Allie.
