Cândida Borges open lecture: DNArchive: The Millennial Journey of an Artist

The Department of Art’s Visiting Artists and Scholars Program invites the Georgia College & State University community to a public lecture by the Brazilian musician, transmedia artist, scholar and educator Cândida Borges. Borges, who lives and works between New York City and Rio de Janeiro, holds a Ph.D. in arts from Plymouth University (UK, 2022), a master’s in music/piano performance from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil, 2001), as well as a bachelor's in piano, singing and composition (SAE NYC/2013). As a classically trained pianist, singer-songwriter and composer, Borges has performed in many large theaters and festivals in Brazil and Latin America. As a transmedia artist, she is the co-creator of the Transeuntis Mundi project, which has been recognized by the journal Leonardo (MIT Press, 2022), as one of the top contemporary works of Art, Science and Technology in 2022 and has received other awards such as Best Sound of the Year Award (UK, 2023), the Lumen Prize (UK, 2022), the Innovation Award of the Los Angeles Tribune (US, 2021) and the Realmix Award (Colombia, 2021). Borges has received grants and commissions for large exhibitions in major art venues around the world, including recent exhibitions in the Contemporary Art Museum of Rio de Janeiro (2023) and the Museum of the Moving Image in New York (2020).

Borges will speak to the Georgia College community about her career as an artist and musician, focusing on her transmedia Transeuntis Mundi project. The talk will take place Feb. 19, from 5 until 6 p.m. in the College of Arts & Sciences building, room 272.
