Student Award Winners for Digital Humanities Scholarship

The Digital Humanities Collaborative is thrilled to announce this year's awards given to students for exceptional scholarship in DH presented at Research Day:

  • Best DH data visualization: “Beyond Graduation: The Enduring Legacies of Georgia College's Trailblazing Women." Presenter: Suzy Parker; faculty advisor: Jolene Cole

 

  • Best DH short publication: “Performing Mask-ulinity: Ron DeSantis and the Art of Musical Disguise." Presenter: Victoriyah Friend; faculty advisor: Dr. Dana Gorzelany-Mostak

 

  • Best use of DH for fun: “Tarnished Angels: Prostitution in 19th-Century France." Presenters: Lily Gauntt, Jasmine Harrison, Sophie Hardy, Madison Coleman, Grace Horton and Charlotte Aexel; faculty advisor: Dr. Libby Murphy

 

  • Best exploration of DH failures/limitations: “Capabilities and Challenges of AI: Replicating Illustrations and Narratives of Don Quixote." Presenter: Abbey Howell; faculty advisor: Dr. Daniel Holcombe

 

Each of these students are awarded $72 for engaging in humanities research that advances our use and understanding of digital technologies. 

The DHC is pleased to report that this year we experienced our highest participation yet at Research Day. We welcomed 24 undergraduate and graduate students who presented oral papers and contributed to the roundtable discussion, "Student Perspectives on Artificial Intelligence." We wrapped up the conference with our closing keynote address delivered by Dr. Cynthia Alby.
