Learning Center Student Staff present at National Learning Assistance Conference
Last week, The Learning Center (LC) had four of their student staff present at the Association of Colleges for Tutoring & Learning Association (ACTLA) conference. The conference aims to inform both professionals and peer educators in learning assistance as the organization facilitates student empowerment and transfer of knowledge. Ivan Chu, Shannon Northen, Lillian Packard and Brenna Hendrix all presented sessions on topics related to their work in the Learning Center, including the leadership model of SI Coaches and social media use for engagement in learning centers, to name a few. Their sessions were received very well among the professional and student staff in attendance.
The LC is accredited through the International Center for Supplemental Instruction, as well as certified in all levels of the College Reading & Learning Association's training certification. Presentations and attendance at conferences not only provides professional development for the student staff, but also contributes to the required training time associated with these accreditations/certifications.
