Faculty Recital - "The New Madness," Andrew Allen, saxophone

Thursday, Feb. 13 Georgia College & State University’s Department of Music presents a Faculty Recital, “The New Madness,” 7:30 p.m. in Max Noah Recital Hall, featuring Andrew J. Allen, saxophone; and Owen Lovell, piano. This concert will include themes of love and loss by composers from a diverse number of musical trends of the twentieth century, including lush romanticism to avant-garde experimentalism.  William Albright’s Sonata for alto saxophone and piano, whose second movement, “La folia nuova,” or “The new madness,” is a homage to the composer George Caccipo, a departed friend of Albright’s.  The title communicates the peaks and valleys of high and low emotional states found in the musical program. This concert will also be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/GCMusicDepartment. A $5 donation is encouraged. Online donations can be made at https://give.gcsu.edu/g/department-of-music/ . All proceeds benefit music scholarships or the GCSU Department of Music through GCSU Foundation, Inc.
