Jazz Band Concert: Straighten Up and Swing Right!

Jazz Band Concert: Straighten Up and Swing Right!

Georgia College & State University’s Jazz Band concert is Thursday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Russell Auditorium. Get ready for a night of toe-tapping rhythms, soaring melodies and hard-swinging jazz. This year’s theme, “Straighten Up and Swing Right!,” is a celebration of the big band sound, featuring everything from classic swing and bebop, to blues and Latin grooves. You’ll hear timeless standards like Night and Day and The Lady is a Tramp, the high-energy drive of Blues in Hoss’ Flat, and the cool sophistication of A Time for Love. They will bring the heat with Frankie Found Cuba and Oclupaca, while putting a fresh spin on favorites like Straighten Up and Fly Right.

Whether you’re a long-time jazz lover or new to the scene, this concert is all about the joy of swing. So sit back, soak it in, and let’s swing right! This concert will also be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/GCMusicDepartment. A $5 donation is encouraged. Online donations can be made at give.gcsu.edu/g/department-of-music/. All proceeds benefit music scholarships or the GCSU Department of Music through GCSU Foundation, Inc.
