Flags on state buildings and grounds throughout Georgia ordered lowered to half-staff

By State of Georgia Executive Order from Gov. Brian Kemp

WHEREAS The citizens of the State of Georgia and throughout the United States are heartbroken following the senseless act of violence that took place on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia; and 

WHEREAS Two teachers and two students were killed, and others sustained serious injuries; and 

WHEREAS The people of Georgia share the grief of the parents, families, and friends of those who were injured or killed, and we pray for their comfort and healing in the days to come; and 

WHEREAS It is fitting and proper to recognize the injured and remember those who lost their lives-Mr. Richard Aspinwall, 39; Ms. Christina Irimie, 53; Mr. Christian Angulo, 14; and Mr. Mason Schermerhorn, 14-by lowering the flags on all State buildings and grounds throughout Georgia to half-staff. 

Now, THEREFORE, AS A MARK OF RESPECT FOR THOSE AFFECTED BY THIS TERRIBLE TRAGEDY, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY 
That the flag of the United States and the flag of the State of Georgia shall be flown at half-staff on all State buildings and grounds from this date until sunset on the date of the final victim's interment. 


IT IS FURTHER 


That the Office of the Governor may continue to issue guidance on the effective date of this Order as needed through communication media, including social media, without the need for further Executive Orders.
