Flag Lowered to Half-Staff by Executive Order of the Governor

FLAGS ON ALL STATE BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS ORDERED LOWERED TO HALF-STAFF
 

WHEREAS: Nearly one year ago, on Saturday, October 7, 2023, during the Jewish holiday of Shemini Atzeret, militant Hamas terrorists launched a coordinated attack on the country of Israel by land, sea, and air, killing over 1,200 people; and
 

WHEREAS: Among those killed were over 40 American citizens, with at least 7 Americans still unaccounted for or being held hostage; and
 

WHEREAS: As we observe the one year anniversary of this tragedy, the people of Georgia continue to mourn the American lives lost in these unwarranted attacks and join our close ally Israel in grieving all those who were taken from their families or injured; and
 

WHEREAS: It is appropriate that the flag of the United States and the flag of the State of Georgia be flown at half-staff in memory of those killed during these brutal assaults.
 

NOW, THEREFORE, IN HONOR AND AS A MARK OF RESPECT FOR THE MEMORY OF THOSE KILLED IN THESE UNWARRANTED ATTACKS, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED: That the flag of the United States of America and the flag of the State of Georgia shall be flown at half-staff on all state buildings and grounds on Monday, October 7, 2024, until sunset.
