Basic needs supply drive: Families in Mitchell County/Spruce Pine, North Carolina

Families in Mitchell County, North Carolina, are in need of basic supplies as the season has changed and much of the area is still without power and water. We will collect items through Friday, Dec. 6, so we can load donations over the weekend.

Donations can be dropped off in the large white bins on the first floor of Maxwell Student Union, outside the Give Center (Suite 143) between 8 a.m. and  8 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Please consider donating any of the following items. Or, if your office, department, or student organization would like to fully sponsor a family, you can pack a box with the following list:

  • Dish soap (2-4 bottles)
  • Hand soap (2-4 pack)
  • Laundry detergent (not pods)
  • Clothespins (pack of 100)
  • Paper towels (pack of 6)
  • Hand sanitizing wipes
  • Aluminum foil (heavy duty, 1-2 rolls)
  • Manual can opener
  • Paper plates (pack of at least 100-200)
  • Plastic cups (50-100 pack)
  • Sandwich bags (2 boxes)
  • Trash bags (1-2 boxes)
  • Batteries (double A and C)
  • Toothpaste (2 pack)
  • Toothbrushes (pack of 4)
  • Bath soap (1-2 large bottles or 2-4 bar pack)
  • Shampoo (1-2 large bottles)
  • Shaving cream (2-4 cans)
  • Razors (disposable pack)
  • Hairbrushes (2)
  • Hair ties
  • Blankets (2-4)

Additional donations of rubber boots/wellies in any size appreciated, as the mud continues to wear through shoes.
