GCSU Students recognized for excellence at the Annual Meeting of the Georgia Academy of Science

GCSU Students recognized for excellence at the Annual Meeting of the Georgia Academy of Science
Approximately two dozen Georgia College & State University students and faculty traveled to Young Harris College for the Annual Meeting of the Georgia Academy of Science on March 7 and 8, 2025. The students delivered oral and poster presentations highlighting their STEM research. In the Biological Sciences section, Sydney Irons won the Best Undergraduate Oral Presentation and Ana Agi won Best Graduate Oral Presentation. In the Earth and Atmospheric Sciences section, Victoria Alden won Best Undergraduate Poster Presentation and Megan Martin won Best Graduate Oral Presentation. In the Biomedical Sciences section, Heather Vincent won Best Undergraduate Oral Presentation. In the Psychological Sciences section, Trenholm Fahy won Best Undergraduate Oral Presentation. In addition, Anna Agi, Wiley Bundy, Muzila Nchimunya, Heather Vincent and Sarah West received Student Travel Awards. Several GCSU faculty were elected to officer positions within the Academy. Dr. Al Mead began a two-year term as president of the Academy. In Biological Sciences, Dr. Kris White was elected section chair. In Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Dr. Christine Mutiti was elected section councilor and Dr. Sam Mutiti was elected section chair. In Biomedical Sciences, Dr. Kasey Karen was elected section chair. In Psychological Sciences, Dr. Stephanie Jett was elected section councilor.
