Construction update: Temporary parking changes to Herty Hall, Andalusia

Construction update: Temporary parking changes to Herty Hall, Andalusia

Construction projects are underway at Georgia College & State University, leading to changes on and around campus that may impact your daily routine.

See details regarding two significant projects below.

Herty Hall

Installation of construction fencing around Herty Hall began Wednesday, Aug. 6, with demolition work planned shortly thereafter and renovation beginning in September that is expected to continue for the next 18 months.

During this period, parking near the building will be impacted.

Areas along North Wilkinson Street have been approved by the city of Milledgeville to be designated for construction use, supply storage and worker parking. Parking along West Montgomery Street is also likely to be affected, and signage announcing the changes is posted. These changes are also reflected in the campus map. GCSU Staff members who need to access Herty during the construction process will need to contact Chris Bell to gain entry to the construction site. Staff will be escorted and required to wear protective equipment.

Please find alternative parking during this time. See the New Campus Parking Plan to identify lots available to faculty and staff.

Andalusia

A project to improve the grounds at Andalusia has begun. The front entry area will be razed to make the Interpretive Center more visible from U.S. Highway 441/North Columbia Street, additional parking will be added, and new fencing and signage will be installed.

The main entry to the parking lot is blocked for the project’s two-month construction period, but temporary signage is posted to direct visitors to alternative parking areas. The Interpretive Center remains open! Tours of Andalusia farmhouse are suspended as work continues on the  installation of HVAC.

More details will be released as they become available.
