Spring 2026 - Open Spots Only

Who: Any enrolled Georgia College student that is proficient on:

Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, Trombone
Trumpet, Guitar, Bass (upright and/or electric), Voice, Piano, Drum Set and Percussion (Vibes and Hand Instruments)

Note: Students that participated in Fall 2025 do not need to re-audition.

When: January 13, 2026, in Music Rehearsal Hall RM 120 at 7:00pm

What: At your audition you will be asked to perform the following things:
1. A chromatic scale over the full range of your instrument
2. The attached lead chart
3. Improvise over a basic concert Bb blues (a recording will be provided as a rhythm section). Chords are I, IV, I, I/IV, IV, I, I/ii, V, I, I

4. Piano, Bass, Guitar will be asked to comp through a chorus or two of Doxy or Tenor Madness

5. Trap set may be asked to demonstrate swing, funk, and a variety of Latin patterns.
6. Sight reading is also possible

Notes/Suggestions:

1. Listen, a lot, to several (3-5) different recordings of Doxy or Tenor Madness

Practice first with a metronome, then without.
3. Speed counts (scales and chart), but cleanliness counts more.
4. The improvisation portion of the audition is optional, but highly recommended.

It is better to try than to not, but omitting this part does not automatically eliminate you from consideration.
5. We prefer that students commit to an entire year of jazz band, but if you are unable to play spring or fall due to scheduling conflicts, please mention this at your audition. This will not eliminate you from consideration.
6. We do expect all students to be able to read music and/or chord symbols. Jazz band music does not tend to utilize tab notation.

Audition Music is ATTACHED.
