Media coverage of Israel/Palestine: Bias, dehumanization and the justification of violence

Media coverage of Israel/Palestine: Bias, dehumanization and the justification of violence

Join us in Arts & Sciences 251 from 3:30-4:30pm (a change in time and location due to speaker travel issues) for a guest lecture from Dr. Emily Schneider, associate professor at Northern Arizona University.

This talk examines U.S. media coverage of Israeli violence in Gaza, with a focus on attacks on hospitals and medical facilities. Drawing on an analysis of five major news outlets, Schneider will explore how both Palestinian and Israeli suffering are portrayed, highlighting patterns of bias, selective humanization and conditional victimhood. Attendees will learn how media coverage shapes perceptions of legitimacy, civilian casualties and the right to violence within broader economic and geopolitical contexts.
