Social Media Accessibility virtual training

Social Media Accessibility virtual training

Greetings social media managers,

As announced on April 16, 2026, Georgia College & State University is taking steps to ensure our websites, online courses, social media posts and other digital resources meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standard, as required by the U.S. Department of Justice’s 2024 ruling. The Center for Teaching & Learning, Information Technology, University Communications, Student Disability Resource Center and other campus partners are working collaboratively to support this initiative.

As a content manager of one or more official GCSU social media pages, you play an essential role in helping the university meet these requirements by ensuring your social media posts are accessible. To support you, we are hosting a mandatory virtual training session Wednesday, April 22, at 2 p.m. We will discuss the new accessibility rules and tips to ensure your posts are in compliance. Due to time constraints and for further educational purposes, we will record the training for future viewing, and you will also sign an attestation to confirm receipt and understanding of the training.

A Digital Accessibility Portal has also been launched, which includes additional resources specific to GCSU’s online platforms.

If you have questions, support is available:

Thank you for your attention and cooperation as we work to strengthen accessibility across GCSU’s digital resources for all audiences.
